Uniti Group must follow broadband access rules, says Australian competition regulator

( January 15, 2025, 00:28 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Australian competition watchdog has issued legally binding rules of conduct to superfast broadband service supplier Uniti Group and related entities including Opticomm to enable retailers to supply broadband over Uniti Group networks on reasonable terms. In a statement today, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission said that these binding rules were issued in response to concerns raised by broadband retailers who sought to access Uniti Group's superfast broadband access service at regulated prices. Retailers argued that Uniti Group's proposed interconnection arrangements were not commercially viable. The regulator said that the binding rules of conduct will promote retail competition in the industry. The regulator also announced that it will be launching a public inquiry to consider “varying the superfast broadband access service access determination” following the concerns raised by retailers. The full statement by the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission follows; the binding rules of conduct are attached: ...
