In cross-border patent inventorship fight, UKIPO will defer to High Court

By Melissa Ritti ( December 18, 2024, 15:46 GMT | Insight) -- A patent dispute over automated methods of controlling unmanned aircraft is better off proceeding at the UK High Court, the UK Intellectual Property Office recently ruled. In “declining to deal” with claims by the University of Southampton that Windracers Ltd had wrongly listed two inventors of a UK patent and in related applications filed in the EU and US, the UKIPO said the complexity of the case — including potential copyright and trade secret claims by Windracers — favors resolution by the court.The UK Intellectual Property Office won’t, for now, weigh in on a bid for correction of inventorship filed by the University of Southampton and Professor James Scanlan....
