Japan's cloud-services providers, users urged to enhance data security measures by PPC

( December 18, 2024, 01:52 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Japanese cloud-services providers and users involved in managing human resources and labor situations should be vigilant and take proactive data-security measures, the Personal Information Protection Commission said in a cautionary alert. The data-protection regulator investigated a data breach involving client companies' employee information, which included names, birthdates, addresses, employment contracts, driver's licenses, residence cards, health checkup results, bank cards and personal identification numbers stored on cloud servers. It was found that many client companies failed to supervise the cloud-service provider's data management practices, while the provider itself had incorrect settings from the start of service provision, allowing third-party access to its cloud-storage server. The commission urged both providers and users of cloud services for human resource and labor management to implement data-security measures as required by personal information protection law.The statement, in Japanese, is attached....
