In DMCA fraud row, judge says general jurisdiction claim ‘borders on frivolous’

A judge in New York has rejected claims by Twin Beauty that general jurisdiction exists there over anyone who engages in e-commerce and found specific jurisdiction lacking because claims of DMCA abuse do not “arise from” the defendants’ alleged sales.A corporate defendant and an individual, possibly residing in either Florida or Japan, lack minimum contacts with New York to confer jurisdiction there in a lawsuit over fraudulent takedown notices they allegedly sent under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act....
