US Representative James introduces age-verification, ratings bill for app stores

( December 11, 2024, 23:11 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: US Representative John James of Michigan has introduced a bill that would mandate age verification, among other measures, to ensure "childen are not accessing age restricted material though digital app stores" and provide parents or guardians with additional control over what their children access. The App Store Accountability Act would require age verification for access to app store accounts, parental consent for app store users under 18, age ratings displays for apps, would create linked devices allowing guardians to monitor minors' activity, and would establish enforcement mechanisms for violations of the act, James said in a press release.
