( December 11, 2024, 16:25 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary:  Four US legislators — two Republicans and two Democrats — have introduced a bill that would prohibit joint ownership of pharmacy benefit managers and pharmacies, with the stated goal of cutting drug prices for consumers. Introduced by Senators Josh Hawley and Elizabeth Warren and Representatives Diana Harshbarger and Jake Auchincloss, the Patients Before Monopolies Act would "untangle" conflicts of interest by requiring healthcare conglomerates and PBMs to divest their pharmacy businesses within three years, a statement from Democrat Warren said.* The bill would also enable antitrust enforcers like the Federal Trade Commission to penalize non-compliance, disgorge revenues, award those revenues to harmed communities, and monitor both the divestitures and companies' future acquisitions, it said. *Corrected Feb. 19, 2025, at 22:41 GMT; clarifies that Harshbarger and Auchincloss are House members. Statement follows:...
