New Zealand competition regulator to increase enforcement activities

( December 6, 2024, 00:15 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The New Zealand competition watchdog has announced plans to increase enforcement efforts, particularly in cases where legal precedents are unclear. In a statement published today, the New Zealand Commerce Commission said that following a decision by the regulator’s Board to “overcommit” its litigation fund, it will take more action to become a more active enforcer. The statement said that historically, the fund has not been fully utilized due in part to budgeted cases not being contested in a court. The regulator also announced that it will focus on bid-rigging cartels and non-compete cases in the year 2024-2025.
