‘No-risk’ category for EU deforestation rules dropped by EPP

By Oscar Pandiello ( December 2, 2024, 15:07 GMT | Insight) -- The European People’s Party has withdrawn its proposal for a “no risk” category for countries under the EU Deforestation Regulation following resistance from member states, which feared it could jeopardize plans for a one-year implementation delay. Negotiators are now focused on approving the delay, with the European Parliament's final vote expected for the Dec. 16-19 plenary session.Countries cannot classify as "no risk" under the EU Deforestation Regulation, with the center-right European People's Party having withdrawn its amendment proposal....
