( November 29, 2024, 02:17 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Virgin Australia and Qatar Airways have received an interim authorization subject to an undertaking from Australia’s competition watchdog for their codeshare arrangement on international flights. In a statement today, the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission said the airlines sought an “urgent interim authorization” to allow Virgin Australia to start its new Australia-Doha services from Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane in June 2025 and from Perth in November 2025. The authorization allows the two airlines the lead time to discuss planning and marketing strategies for the new services. The regulator said it has yet to reach a final conclusion on the authorization application. The court-enforceable undertaking ensures that if final regulatory approval is not granted, customers who have booked the new services would be protected, the statement said. The regulator is likely to announce its final decision in the first quarter of 2025.The full statement from the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission follows; court-enforceable undertaking is attached:...
