Netflix wins dismissal of Tiger King copyright case based on claim preclusion

( November 22, 2024, 10:10 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Netflix won dismissal with prejudice of claims that it unlawfully published eight videos authored by Whyte Monkee Productions and Timothy Sepi as part of its Tiger King documentary series. The lawsuit, which was filed in California state court and removed to the US District Court for the Northern District of California, alleged violations of the copyright laws of Australia, Great Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand and Spain. The California federal judge held that the foreign copyright claims were precluded by a final judgment for Netflix in a prior lawsuit brought by the plaintiffs under the Copyright Act in the US District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma.See attached file....
