TikTok asks US judge to consolidate class actions, coordinate with FTC lawsuit

( November 20, 2024, 23:39 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: In its response to the US Federal Trade Commission's lawsuit, ByteDance is asking the judge consolidate multiple class actions against the company and coordinate those cases with the federal lawsuit because the allegations are closely related. "Due to critical structural differences between the Government action and the class actions, however, Defendants respectfully submit that consolidating all of the actions would not be appropriate. The parties’ causes of action, though related, are not the same: just as the Government cannot bring class-action claims, the private Plaintiffs cannot bring a COPPA claim," ByteDance, the owner of TikTok, wrote. See attached file. ...
