Apple's $100 million investment offer to Indonesia to lift iPhone 16 ban set for consideration

( November 20, 2024, 12:55 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: A $100 million, two-year investment proposal that Apple has submitted to Indonesia to allow its iPhone 16 to be sold in the country will be discussed on Thursday, according to the Ministry of Industry. But the ministry said it would continue to hold Apple accountable for its previous commitment to meet the local content requirement for smartphones, citing a current value gap of 240 billion rupiah ($15 million). The ministry has imposed the same conditions on Alphabet, the parent company of Google, which produces the Google Pixel 9, which is also banned from being sold in the domestic market because it hasn't met local content requirements. Indonesia requires 40 percent of the content of smartphones and tablets to come from domestic producers. Full statement follows (in Indonesian). ...
