Emerging AI technologies pose risks for individual rights, EU data watchdog report cautions

( November 19, 2024, 17:37 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The European Data Protection Supervisor, Wojciech Wiewiórowski, published a report assessing the impact of AI technology trends on individuals’ rights and freedoms. In particular, the EU data watchdog identified six trends — retrieval-augmented generation, on-device AI, multimodal AI, machine unlearning, scalable oversight and neuro-symbolic AI — and illustrated them with fictional scenarios on impacts for people’s daily lives. "While some of the technologies … may contribute to mitigating the risks to individuals’ fundamental rights, some, while promising substantial economic benefits, may also pose significant risks to individuals if not properly managed," the report finds.Full report attached....
