Cisco's US challenge to Ramot at Tel Aviv University patent partly succeeds

( November 12, 2024, 10:10 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Cisco Systems has prevailed, in part, on allegations a patent for converting digital data into modulated signals is indefinite. US District Judge Gregory B. Williams of the District of Delaware said a person of ordinary skill in the art would be unable to perform the method in Ramot at Tel Aviv University’s US Patent No. 11,342,998 because a “wherein the N bits of the N bit digital input data word are mapped” limitation in claims 45-47 and 49-54 is ambiguous, both functionally and structurally. Cisco filed the underlying lawsuit against Ramot in 2022, the same day the ‘998 patent was issued, seeking a declaratory judgment of noninfringement. Ramot then sued Cisco for infringement in Texas, but the case was later transferred to Delaware. In the same ruling, Williams declared claims 1, 4, 6-15, 58 and 61-63 of the ‘998 patent not indefinite.See attached file....
