Modest flight-path changes could slash 'contrail' warming before 2040, green group finds

( November 13, 2024, 10:54 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Adjusting only a few flight paths to avoid contrails — trails of condensation left by aircraft flying through cold and humid skies — can reduce global warming attributable to contrails by more than half before 2040 with little expense, green advocacy group Transport & Environment claims in a new study. "Contrails have a net warming effect on the planet, at least as important as the one caused by aviation’s CO2 emissions," the group says. "The climate benefits from avoiding the most warming contrails would always be larger than the climate penalty from the extra CO2 emissions." Press release follows. Study attached....
