Austria argues case against Hungarian aid for Paks II nuclear plant at EU’s top court

By Natalie McNelis ( November 12, 2024, 16:52 GMT | Insight) -- Austria today had its fresh challenge of the European Commission’s 2017 approval of Hungary’s aid for the construction of the Paks II nuclear facilities heard at the EU Court of Justice. Austria insisted the aid couldn’t be approved because it was based on an illegal public procurement. Further, it said the support violated the bloc’s state aid rules, for instance because its amount was disproportionate.Austria told the EU's highest judges today that the bloc's lower court was wrong to uphold a European Commission decision to approve Hungarian aid to build two nuclear reactors because the award violated EU public procurement rules....
