Shell wins appeal against environmental group over duty to cut emissions at Dutch court

( November 12, 2024, 11:55 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Oil and gas giant Shell won a legal challenge today at the Hague Court of Appeal against the environmental group Milieudefensie over a previous ruling by the Hague District Court that said that Shell is obliged to reduce its CO2 emissions by 45 percent by 2030 relative to 2019 levels. While Shell has an obligation to counter dangerous climate change, it is not obliged to cut CO2 emissions by a set percentage, the Hague Court of Appeal has ruled.Press release follows.
