Google's Privacy Sandbox commitments will need updating after changes, UK antitrust watchdog says

( November 11, 2024, 15:34 GMT | Official Statement) -- Mlex Summary: Google's commitments in relation to its Privacy Sandbox project will need to be updated after the US tech giant's decision to change its approach, but for now it is in compliance with the current set of rules, the UK competition watchdog said today. Issuing an update note covering the second and third quarter of 2024, the Competition and Markets Authority said it still recognizes some risks for privacy, but overall found the company correctly engaging with the authorities on their concerns. In a separate statement, the Information Commissioner's Office notes that the CMA report sets out a range of concerns it has raised with Google, including areas where its proposed privacy tools are "open to misuse."CMA statement follows.
