Amazon can recoup refunds issued for smoke detectors bearing fake 'UL' trademarks, US judge says

The e-tailer, for its part, was awarded $868,393 in damages, representing the amount it refunded customers who purchased the counterfeits sold by the defendants, each of whom reside in China.Two trademark registrations belonging to the safety testing and certification organization UL Solutions were infringed by a network of Chinese entities with Amazon storefronts, entitling UL to $3.8 million — just under the Lanham Act’s statutory maximum — and Amazon $868,393 in actual damages, a US judge ruled Friday....
