Efficient Power Conversion wins at US ITC, but flagship patent not out of the woods

By Melissa Ritti ( November 8, 2024, 20:27 GMT | Comment) -- Wide band-gap fabricated gallium nitride, or GaN, semiconductors considered key to powering artificial intelligence systems, self-driving cars and other emerging technologies, passed a big test yesterday when the US International Trade Commission declared two Efficient Power Conversion, or EPC, patents valid, and declared one of those patents infringed by China’s Innoscience (Zhuhai) Technology. The same patent is also the subject of an inter partes review based on prior art not before the ITC, but Alex Lidow, CEO of EPC, tells MLex he remains confident the reference is distinguishable — and said litigation over its GaN technology elsewhere is not “off the table.” In a final determination by the US International Trade Commission yesterday, Efficient Power Conversion, or EPC, again came out on top in a battle for supremacy in the gallium nitride (GaN) high electron mobility transistor (HEMT) semiconductor market....
