UKIPO to widen the scope of copyright law to qualify more foreign artists for public performance rights

( November 8, 2024, 18:38 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The UK's Intellectual Property Office, or UKIPO said on Tuesday that it aims to broaden the qualification for more performers of foreign nationality to receive Public Performance Rights for broadcast of their work in the UK. Performers whose producers are nationals of the UK or parties to the Rome Convention or the World Intellectual Property Organization's Performances and Phonograms Treaty will qualify for the rights, the UKIPO said in a statement. The changes will be implemented by mid-December 2024 and is estimated to have an annual impact of £1.4 million on UK's creative industries, the regulator said. Please see the text below:...
