CADE, Rio Grande do Sul Public Prosecutor's Office probe alleged cartel affecting public bids

( November 6, 2024, 20:32 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Administrative Council for Economic Defense, or CADE, and the Public Prosecutor's Office of Rio Grande do Sul launched Operation Chameleon today to investigate and dismantle an alleged cartel scheme, fraud in public bidding processes, and money laundering related to the supply of goods to the state of Rio Grande do Sul. Law enforcement executed 30 warrants across eight cities in Rio Grande do Sul — Porto Alegre, Viamão, Cachoeirinha, São Leopoldo, Santa Maria, São Gabriel, Soledade, and Passo Fundo — as well as in two cities in Paraná, Curitiba and Pinhais. Eleven companies from Rio Grande do Sul and six from Paraná are implicated in defrauding public bidding totaling more than $81 million since 2018.
