Law firm Mathys & Squire given access to unredacted documents by UPC in revocation action

( November 5, 2024, 12:26 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Law firm Mathys & Squire LLP has been granted access by the Unified Patent Court's Central Division in Munich to unredacted documents in a revocation action involving Astellas Institute for Regenerative Medicine and Japanese research entities Healios KK, Riken, and Osaka University. Originally, Astellas sought to invalidate a European Patent 3,056,563 held by these institutions related to regenerative medicine, but the case was settled in July. Astellas requested that certain commercial information in its filings remain confidential, arguing disclosure could harm its business interests. However, Mathys & Squire successfully argued for full access, claiming that the information is either public or non-confidential. The UPC agreed, ruling that with no substantiated confidentiality claim from Astellas, public access should prevail.See court document attached....
