South Korea sharply raises budget for supercomputer amid global AI competition

( November 5, 2024, 05:00 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea’s science ministry has decided to increase the budget for a project to purchase a new supercomputer system by more than 50 percent after failing to acquire it, primarily due to rising costs amid a global competition for artificial intelligence development. The budget for the project, which aims to acquire a system with computing power of 600 petaflops, has been raised to 448.3 billion won ($325.02 million) from the previous 292.9 billion won, according to the Ministry of Science and ICT.
