EU emissions fell in 2023 but action still needed to meet 2030 goals, EU commission says

This was due to a rapid expansion of renewable energy, a decline in the use of fossil fuels and a cut in energy consumption across Europe, the commission's climate action progress report shows. An important contribution came from the energy and industrial sectors in the EU Emissions Trading System which cut emissions by a record 16.5 percent in 2023.
