Australia's digital regulators are talking to each other. Is it enough?

For this reason, the news last week that the government was considering the creation of a new digital affairs ministry was largely greeted with cynicism by Australian media — the latest contortion in its rather tepid “tough on big tech” charade. But for those already deep in the tech-policy weeds, it nevertheless focused minds on the eternal problem of regulatory coordination, and what, if anything, can be done to boost Australia’s existing tech regulation cooperative, the Digital Platform Regulators Forum. Few issues are less likely to capture the hearts and minds of competition watchers — let alone ordinary voters — than calls for greater regulatory coordination. For those enforcers attempting to reign in the global tech giants, however, sharing notes is quickly becoming the aim of the game....
