Google urges US court to dismiss Yelp's antitrust lawsuit over local search

( October 29, 2024, 02:36 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Google has filed a motion to dismiss Yelp's antitrust complaint accusing the tech giant of illegally monopolizing the markets for local search services and local search advertising. In its filing with the US Northern District of California, Google argues that "dismissal is necessary because (1) Yelp’s claims are time-barred; (2) Yelp fails to plead an unlawful tying arrangement (Count IV); (3) Yelp fails to plead claims for monopoly leveraging (Counts V and VI); (4) Yelp fails to plead claims for refusal to deal; and (5) Yelp fails to plead a separate California Unfair Competition Law claim (Count VII)." Google also said the lawsuit challenges a product innovation that it first introduced in Google Search in 2007. "Yelp has been peddling these same claims to antitrust authorities around the world for over a decade, and no such authority has raised them in any antitrust action against Google," Google said.See court document. ...
