Japan's NTT should remain regulated under NTT Law, telecom working groups recommend

( October 25, 2024, 07:43 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Three working groups convened by the Japanese telecom regulator have said that the foreign ownership and other rules governing the former monopoly Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp. should continue to be regulated by the Act on Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation. The recommendation comes despite calls from a team within the main ruling party to abolish the law in order to enhance the international competitiveness of the NTT group. The reports by the working groups, focusing on economic security, universal services, and fair competition, will be further discussed by higher panels within the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications before being put forward for public consultation.
