Gas, nuclear actual emissions should be considered in EU low-carbon hydrogen rules, key lobbies say

( October 25, 2024, 15:29 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: EU low-carbon hydrogen rules should consider the actual emission performance of fossil gas and nuclear electricity, 16 key lobbies from the hydrogen, chemicals, gas, and other sectors have said. The lobbies warn that the EU executive’s proposal to not grant recognition to nuclear electricity power purchase agreements’ real emissions at least until 2028 could backfire. This “is likely to hold back financial investment decisions for European manufacturing assets and be detrimental to the emergence of renewable and low-carbon value-chains for hydrogen, fuels and industrial products,” they wrote. A consultation on the rules ends today.Joint statement is attached....
