New national pledges to cut emissions must be 'dramatically' ambitious, UN emissions report says

( October 24, 2024, 13:00 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Global governments must commit to a "dramatically stronger ambition and action" in the next round of Nationally Determined Contributions, or NDCs, to be submitted in early 2025, the UN annual emissions report says. Without strong ambition and immediate delivery of the new NDCs, the planet would risk a temperature increase of 2.6-3.1 degrees Celsius over this century, the document says. The temperature limit of 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels set in the Paris Agreement on climate change can still be respected with "sufficiently strong" NDCs, a global concerted effort and action from the largest-emitting members of G20, the report shows.Press release follows.
