EU energy markets were more predictable in Q2 2024 than a year earlier; Russian gas imports rose

( October 24, 2024, 15:38 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: EU gas and electricity markets were in a "much more stable and predictable situation" in the second quarter of 2024 compared to the same period a year earlier, according to the new quarterly reports published today by the European Commission. More than half of the bloc’s electricity was generated from renewables, and the market saw both wholesale and retail power prices winding down compared to the first quarter. EU gas imports in the second quarter of 2024 were 9 percent lower than in the same period of 2023, but Russian gas imports actually increased 25 percent year-on-year.Press release follows.
