NASCAR calls racing teams’ motion for injunction in US monopolization suit a ‘masterclass in contradiction’

( October 23, 2024, 22:31 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: NASCAR told a North Carolina federal court that several racing teams' request for an injunction against its proposed 2025 charter is a "masterclass in contradiction," and an attempt to force NASCAR into a contract on the plaintiffs' preferred terms. In a memo outlining its opposition to plaintiffs’ request for an injunction, NASCAR said the injunction against its 2025 charter would disrupt the status quo, not maintain it, and the racing teams cannot show they'd be irreparably harmed by its enforcement. Plaintiffs’ demand for a 2025 charter contradicts their complaint, which calls the charter anticompetitive, NASCAR told the Western District of North Carolina. "Plaintiffs’ real complaint is that, without the benefits of the contract they previously rejected, they now must compete with other teams for access to NASCAR races and sponsorships." The lawsuit is not about protecting competition but a bid to secure more money than plaintiffs could obtain through arm’s-length negotiations, it said.See document below....
