Austrian court’s questions on copyright management for online platforms referred to EU’s top court

Austro-Mechana and AKM, two collective-management organizations, had challenged a decision by Austrian authorities denying them the authority to manage reproduction rights for large online platforms. The court is asking whether content-sharing platforms, under the EU's directives on digital market and copyright, need explicit permission from right holders for reproductions made by users when uploading and sharing content.
