Virkkunen promises AI and cloud law if confirmed as EU Commissioner for tech sovereignty

( October 22, 2024, 22:20 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Henna Virkkunen has told EU lawmakers she will propose legislation to encourage the uptake of AI and cloud technologies if confirmed as a European Commission executive vice president responsible for "tech sovereignty, security and democracy." In written answers to European Parliament members ahead of a live scrutiny session in coming days, Virkkunen said she would present an "AI and Cloud Development Act" that would aid "large-scale investments in cloud and AI facilities which can be considered 'first-of-a-kind.' " The Finnish politician also said she would rigorously enforce the Digital Services Act and the Digital Markets Act, concentrating on opening up closed ecosystems, giving consumers choice and ensuring that "data belongs to those who generate it."Question and answer document attached....
