EU automotive suppliers seek ‘regulatory recalibration’ as major job losses bite

( October 22, 2024, 12:36 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The EU automotive supply industry has lost 86,000 jobs since 2020, representing a net loss of 56,000, according to Clepa, the European Association of Automotive Suppliers. Additionally, 32,000 layoffs were announced in the first six months of 2024 — more than during the worst period of the pandemic. “These losses are driven by declining demand, rising production costs and delayed investments in new technologies,” the lobby said. The industry needs “a regulatory recalibration,” which means "embracing technology-openness in the CO2 standards, ensuring fair access to in-vehicle data and overall boosting the EU’s economy and competitiveness," said Clepa chief Benjamin Krieger.Press release follows....
