Deterrent effect of French antitrust fines set to rise; watchdog issues updated penalties method

The new communication follows the implementation of the ECN+ directive into national law, which gives national competition authorities more powers to enforce EU antitrust rules. The new version — which includes changes to the watchdog's method for determining fines — will promote a uniform application of sanctions between the French authority and the European Commission, the office said.Statement follows.
