US suspends some legal cooperation with Guatemala in wake of anti-graft prosecutor's firing

( July 27, 2021, 22:34 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The US will temporarily suspend some programmatic assistance to the Guatemalan attorney general's office after last week's firing of the country's top anti-corruption prosecutor, Francisco Sandoval, the US State Department announced. "We have lost confidence in the attorney general and their decision — and intention to cooperate with the U.S. Government and fight corruption in good faith," a spokesperson said.
