US trade office's Section 301 tariff exclusion work must be 'fully' documented, GAO says

( July 28, 2021, 18:55 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Office of the US Trade Representative must fully document its internal procedures used in deciding whether to grant importers exclusions from tariffs on Chinese imports, according to a Government Accountability Office report on the agency's process authorized by Section 301 of the Trade Act. "Without fully documented internal procedures, USTR lacks reasonable assurance it conducted its reviews consistently," said the report. The agency set up this product exclusion process in July 2018 because some Chinese goods covered by the Section 301 tariffs aren't available in the US market.See document below. ...
