US-UK trade agreement would increase US unemployment, reduce GDP, advocacy group says

( July 28, 2021, 14:16 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Coalition for a Prosperous America (CPA), a nonprofit organization that works to reform US trade policy while representing agricultural, manufacturing, and labor interests, has released a new economic model of a potential US-UK trade agreement that found that the agreement would increase unemployment in the US by over 2,000 workers and reduce US gross domestic product (GDP) by $142 million a year. CPA said its model is the first to use a methodology for estimating job loss due to worker displacement and jobs lost in each country due to increased import penetration, and shows that US job loss would primarily be in the motor vehicle and machinery manufacturing sector.See statement below....
