UK Competition Authority: OFT recommends extension of the public transport ticketing schemes Block Exemption

( February 17, 2011, 14:13 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The UK's Secretary of State for Transport, Phillip Hammond, has agreed to extend the Public Transport ticketing scheme Block Exemption for an additional period of five years, according to the competition authority. The Block Exemption automatically exempts ticketing arrangements between public transport providers from provisions under national competition law.The Secretary of State for Transport has has accepted the Office of Fair Trading's recommendation to extend the duration of the Public Transport ticketing Schemes Block Exemption in its current form for an additional period of five years until 29 February 2016. The Block Exemption automatically exempts certain types of integrated ticketing arrangements between public transport providers from Competition Act provisions that prohibit anti-competitive agreements. These ticketing agreements include, for example, multi-operator travelcards which entitle passengers to travel on the services of three or more operators on a single ticket....
