South Korea launches study group to enhance protection of privacy of biometric data in AI

The Personal Information Protection Commission said the study group, which consists of scholars, and industry and legal experts, will discuss various concerns surrounding the use of biometric data in the development of generative AI, such as defining biometric data, establishing protection standards, exploring potential regulatory measures for real-time facial recognition technology and its application to images of unspecified group of people.
