Twitch asks US judge to order $328,000 judgment, permanent bans against bot-fueled 'hate raids'

By Mike Swift ( May 30, 2023, 22:38 GMT | Insight) -- Twitch is asking a federal judge in Oakland, California, to hit the accounts of users associated with racist and homophobic "hate raids" with $328,164 in monetary damages and permanently ban users known by the screen names CreatineOverdose and Mango from the social media platform, which attracts more than 30 million users a week. Twitch said it believes that while the accounts that launched the attacks against LGBTQ and minority users belong to people in several European countries, it has struggled to identify their real-world identities or specific locations.In August 2021, streamers on Twitch began to see racist, sexist and homophobic content flood their screens, sometimes with links to violent or gore-filled videos. Those “hate raids” were powered by automated bots that the platform was unable to fully block but ultimately traced to accounts in Europe....
