Chat app LINE Japan found additional instances of China data access, privacy commission says

( July 21, 2021, 06:45 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Japan’s privacy commission said that the messaging app LINE found several more instances of its Chinese affiliate company accessing personal-user data in addition to previously reported incidents. The Personal Information Protection Commission said that the messaging-app operator told the commission it found seven more occasions where employees from its China-based affiliate company accessed user data. The company in March revealed that its Chinese engineers had accessed personal user information 32 times since 2018 before cutting off access in February. The PPC said the new revelation “is further indication that its security management system is inadequate,” adding that the commission will continue to insist on improvement.
