Japan's METI to consider setting up rules over patent negotiations, amid disputes over connected vehicles

( July 26, 2021, 01:55 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Japan will promptly consider creating rules on licensing negotiations, amid intensifying disputes over standard-essential patents involving connected cars, according to an interim report by a study group under the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, or METI, published today. Various Japanese industries are facing the risk of being involved in disputes, the report said, and the Japanese government will promptly consider rules on good-faith negotiations to improve transparency and predictability of SEP licensing negotiation processes, and externally disseminate such rules, by taking into account international discussions.
