Netflix and other streamers push back on telecom 'fair share' payments

( May 24, 2023, 16:00 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Netflix, NBC and other video-on-demand companies have come out in support of keeping the existing framework of telecom regulation in the EU, in response to a European Commission consultation on "fair share" proposals that could result in content companies paying telecom operators for the use of their network infrastructure. The European VOD Coalition, which includes Netflix, NBC Universal, Paramount and other big-name content companies in its membership, said there is "equilibrium" in the market that would be damaged by changes proposed by the commission and telecom companies. The statement follows.
