Sibelco antitrust complainant Swenters takes EU Commission’s rejection to court

( May 30, 2023, 09:49 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Belgian man Ivo Swenters has taken the European Commission's rejection of his antitrust complaint — accusing Sibelco of abusing its market power for the extraction and supply of quartz sand — to the EU General Court. The commission said in January that it also rejected allegations that fellow suppliers including Cimenteries, HeidelbergCement and Hülskens had breached cartel rules. In his appeal — filed in March but only published today — Swenters says the commission breached its duty to investigate and to state reasons, and that it was wrong to conclude that national courts, authorities were well-placed to assess the conduct.The summary of the appeal follows.
