7 of 27 Indonesian cooking-oil companies found guilty of supply restriction; all cleared of price-fixing charge

( May 27, 2023, 05:16 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Seven Indonesian cooking-oil companies have been found guilty of restricting the distribution of cooking oil in response to a government-imposed price cap in early 2022. The Indonesian Competition Commission, or KPPU, imposed a total of 71 billion rupiah ($4.75 million) in fines on the companies, with the highest penalty of 40.8 billion rupiah going to Indofood group’s Salim Ivomas Pratama. Batara Elok Semesta Terpadu was fined 15.2 billion rupiah, Wilmar Group's Multimas Nabati Asahan 8 billion rupiah and Sinar Alam Permai 3.3 billion rupiah, and Budi Nabati Perkasa 1.7 billion rupiah. Asianagro Agungjaya and Incasi Raya were fined 1 billion rupiah each. The seven were among 27 cooking-oil companies facing charges involving price fixing and restrictions on the distribution of goods. The KPPU panel cleared all the companies of price-fixing allegations, but one commissioner from the panel of three issued a dissenting opinion, stating he believed all of the reported companies committed the violation. The full statement is attached. ...
