Amazon calls DC attorney general's antitrust case 'ill-conceived'

( July 20, 2021, 22:31 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Amazon has moved to dismiss antitrust claims filed by the DC Attorney General, arguing that the case is ill-conceived and would subject retailers to antitrust scrutiny for conduct that protects consumers, prevents price-gouging and encourages low prices. The attorney general is challenging Amazon business agreements with its third-party sellers, which prohibits them from selling their products for lower prices on other platforms. Amazon said that antitrust laws encourage and protects business decisions that prioritize offering customer competitive prices and no court has ever condemned a business model requiring competitive prices in a retail store, much less one prohibiting “significantly higher prices” as Amazon does.
