Georgalos-Mondelez deal contested by Argentine competition authority

( May 24, 2023, 21:20 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Argentine competition authority has contested sweets producer Georgalos' acquisition of a set of assets from Mondelez, according to a statement. The National Commission for the Defense of Competition (CNDC) said the transaction raises concerns about overlaps in the peanut dessert market, as the deal involves the reacquisition of the product and the Mantecol flagship brand, originally developed by Georgalos, which was sold to Mondelez. From that, CNDC and the Argentine Secretary of Commerce will convene the parties to a special hearing aimed at analyzing remedies to mitigate negatives effects in the market. Finally, the Secretary of Commerce ordered the companies to keep their activities separately until the deal review is concluded.CNDC press release and documents follow below in Spanish:...
