Google asked to help with ‘AI pact’ by EU digital chief before AI Act is finalized

( May 24, 2023, 14:57 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Alphabet and Google CEO Sundar Pichai was asked to help form a proactive “AI pact” to bring together on a voluntary basis all major AI actors, European or otherwise, by the EU’s digital chief, Commissioner Thierry Breton. There is “no time to lose in the AI race to build a safe online environment,” Breton said. He wants the pact to be established before the legal deadline of the AI Act, currently in its final negotiations. Breton noted that Pichai has committed to complying with all EU rules. The pair also discussed tackling online misinformation around elections in Europe.Statement follows....
